Because diving often takes place at remote locations, it is essential for divers to have the first aid knowledge and skills that enable them to sustain life and promote relief until professional help arrives.

The First Aid training program is designed for all recreational scuba divers or anyone wishing to develop the necessary life saving skills for work home or whilst at leisure. It is required for divers seeking the level of SCUBA Rescue or Advance Rescue, Training Assistant, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor and Instructor.

The care given in the first hour following an incident can be the difference between life and death.

This new course covers the four conerstones of first aid incidents: First Aid, CPR, Oxygen Administration, Accident Management.

This course meets all requirements for Rescue diver, and meet performance criteria for Oxygen provider courses.

These courses follow the same priorities of care used by professional rescuers.

Primary Care (CPR) assumes that local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers are in place to support your Emergency Responder care.

Secondary Care (First Aid) assumes that EMS is delayed or unavailable.

The courses consist of video presentation, slides, lecture, and hands on skill sessions in particular the ABC's of first aid:

Emergency Response Primary Care (CPR) approx first 1/2 day

This course covers emergency care for most life threatening emergencies. Participants focus on primary care through knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice. The major skills learned in this course are:

• Scene Assessment
• Barrier Use
• Primary Assessment
• Rescue Breathing
• One Rescuer, Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Serious Bleeding Management
• Shock Management
• Spinal Injury Management
• Recommended Skill: Automated External Defibrillator Orientation
• Recommended Skill: Conscious Choking Adult
• Recommended Skill: Emergency Oxygen Use Orientation

Emergency Response Secondary Care (First Aid) approx second 1/2 day

This course covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening or when local EMS is unavailable or delayed. Participants focus on secondary assessments and the appropriate first aid through knowledge development, skills development and realistic scenario practice. Skills learned include:

• Injury Assessment
• Illness Assessment
• Bandaging
• Splinting for Dislocations and Fractures

Emergency Oxygen Administration approx 1/2 day

This course covers provides information for complying with the FDA requirements for training in the adminstration of emergency oxygen. Participants focus assessments and the appropriate knowledge and skills development with realistic scenario practice. Emergency Oxygen administration is a critical step in treating a severe or life-threatening illness or injury. This program focuses on administering emergency oxygen, rescue breathing and oxygen delivery devices. Skills learned include:

• Types of O2 equipment
• Operation of adjustable and fixed-flow-rate oxygen delivery systems
• Recognition of oxygen hazards
• Airway management
